Bolsonaro vows to 'change Brazil's destiny' after winning run-off

Speaking via a Facebook Live event to the world, after news of his victory was announced by officials, Bolsonaro told his fellow Brazilians they would "change Brazil's destiny together."  "That is a promise, not of a party, not the vain word of a man. It's a promise to God," he said, standing next to his wife and many cheering supporters. Vowing to govern "following the Bible and the Constitution," he said the nation could not "continue flirting with socialism, with communism, populism and the extremism of the left."

MEXICAN AMBASSADOR'S TERM ENDS

As a consequence of the forthcoming change of Government in Mexico on 1 December 2018 Mexican Ambassador HE José Gerado Traslosheros Hernández  is returning to Mexico at the end of November.   Ambassador Traslosheros has been a  singularly effective representative for Mexico in New Zealand especially in advancing our common interests in CPTPP and the Pacific Alliance and he has worked hard in promoting NZ/Mexico business ties.   TBD wishes Ambassador Traslosheros and his family all the very best in the future (Ambassador Traslosheros pictured above left and centre and with TBD Editor Thomas Manning right).

Argentina dents regional recovery in Q2

A more complete picture of the region revealed that Latin America’s recovery lost steam in the second quarter of the year and performed  more poorly than expected. Regional GDP growth (excluding Venezuela) waned from 2.0% year-on-year in Q1 to 1.7% in Q2, the worst result in one year. While firmer commodity prices, improving household spending and recovering sentiment supported growth in several economies, shocks in major-players Argentina and Brazil held back regional activity.
